The Curriculum followed at Ysgol Pen y Bryn
Ysgol Pen y Bryn Foundation School offers a primary education to children aged 4 to 11. It also offers Nursery education to children aged three years who are given an exciting and enjoyable introduction to school life in the popular and fully resourced Nursery.
The Headteacher of the school, in consultation with the Governors, is responsible for the internal organisation, management and discipline of the school. The Governors, who meet regularly, have a range of responsibilities for the school. The main purpose of the school is to give your child every opportunity to develop the abilities which he or she possesses. To this end, the school will give your child a full grounding in reading, writing and number and encourage development in social, physical, aesthetic and moral potential.
Your child will work alongside other children of similar age, and will be taught for most of the day by one teacher. Sometimes, during the week, a teacher who is a specialist in one subject may take over the class. From time to time, and especially as your child gets older, homework will be set and any help you could give him/her to work quietly would be appreciated.
Throughout his/her school life, your child will be taught in all the major subject areas suitable for primary children. It is important to understand that children do not mature and develop at the same rate as each other and, therefore, every effort will be made in the classroom to ensure that attention is paid to the individual needs of your child.
The normal curriculum of the school will include religious education and, sometimes during the day, usually in the morning, there will be a provision for religious worship.
The school will endeavour to create a happy and caring environment, which is conducive to the personal and social development of each child.
As well as providing the basic foundation curriculum in accordance with national Policy, the school will endeavour to provide an atmosphere wherein the child can develop socially, morally and physically. They hopefully will also be able to develop a sense of humour and an understanding of the need for consideration and patience in their relationship with others.
The school will try to provide a broad education which has covered the core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum. The content and nature of the work is designed to suit the pupils needs bearing in mind their age and stage of learning. The education provided will be child centred and each child’s individual progress will be monitored carefully throughout their school life.
