Adverse Weatherby kstock31 January 2008
Dear Parents,
Re: Adverse Weather Warning.
We have been informed by the Met Office of the possibility of adverse weather across
Severe weather is usually short and infrequent but can nevertheless cause schools, parents and pupils considerable problems.
As a school we have made every effort in the past to remain open during bad weather even though this has caused extra problems for all concerned. We will endeavour to continue with this policy in the future. However, the paramount concern, at all times, is the safety of pupils and any decisions taken will ensure that pupils are not placed at risk. With this in mind a decision to close the school or not will be made tomorrow dependant on the severity of the weather conditions.
Parents are advised to gauge the situation for themselves before setting off for school tomorrow morning bearing in mind if it would be safer to keep the children at home. Parents are also advised to tune into COAST FM (96.3) or Radio Cymru/Radio Wales which will update all concerned with news of school closures. We will also use our new messaging service to contact you if we have your current mobile number.
Please also telephone school if in doubt (01492 531260) and/or visit our website at www.penybryn.org.uk for up to date news.
It is vitally important that should a decision to close the school be made during the day i.e. after the school has opened then the same lines of communication should be used.
The school will also try and contact parents via the telephone and our messaging service. Please ensure that you have advised the school of your up-to-date contact details. Your co-operation in this matter is very much appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
John Roberts
Headteacher.
