PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION

All applications for the Reception Class should be received by December 1 in the year prior to the child’s fourth birthday.
All other applications should be received by 31 May in each year.
OVERSUBSCRIPTION
Where applications for admission exceed the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied in order set out below, to decide which children to admit:-
a) Where the child has a brother or sister currently attending the school
With the following exception:
The school cannot automatically promise a place to siblings of children who live at some distance from the school. In the event that there is a shortage of places priority will be given to siblings of children who live in closer proximity to the school.
b) Proximity of the child’s home to the school, with those living the nearer being accorded the higher priority.
(Proximity of the home in relation to school is defined as the measurement of a straight line from the front door of the home to the front door of the school).
TRANSFER
Any child transferring to Ysgol Pen y Bryn during the Academic Year will be placed in the smallest class appropriate for his/her year. The situation will be reviewed at the end of the academic year when the child may be moved to the correct group for his/her age.

Parents have the right of appeal against a decision not to admit a child. Parents wishing to exercise their right of appeal should write to the Chairman of Governors at the school giving their reasons for their appeal within 14 days of being notified of a refusal of a place.
Further information on Admissions or appeals is available from the school office.
